lightdm crashes when running java build

Part way through a java build, the display manager crashes and restarts. This seems to happen when console applications which generate a lot of output run.

fully up to date system
stock install of openjdk 1.8, maven git
crashes the display manager regardless of whether I log in on vt7/X or log in on vt1/console

run the following commands
git clone http://git.apache.org/gora.git/
cd gora
mvn package

The following showed on the console for ubuntu-bug

problem appeared again today. It appears that the jdk patch decreased the frequency but did not eliminate the problem entirely
