Bug Description
i'm not quite sure what caused this but lightdm used to work perfectly fine until i installed something like compwiz settings manager because i wanted to assign function to the extra mouse buttons, i noticed when i uninstalled the godforsaken package; either it uninstalled ubuntu-desktop package or i autoremoved it. upon seeing my ubuntu-desktop being removed i was alarmed and installed it promptly again.. after that incident.. i was amused to find out that lightdm wont accept my password, when i clicked Switch user it flashed and then i entered my password, it accepted it.. it is a tedious exercise to always have to click switch user everytime to log in so..
i figured lightdm may be the problem so i changed DM to gdm, restarted, being unimpressed with gdm i decided to install lightdm again.. after that i selected lightdm as DM using both sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm & sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm..
now my ubuntu is broken and its a shame because i've been a huge fan of ubuntu for the last two years and i dig how quick and stable it is..
i think i also tried deleting the directories /etc/lightdm and /val/lib/lightdm,
that's unrelated to the bug though and i think that's what broke my startup display config
