Some interesting parts from lightdm.log:
[+0.00s] DEBUG: Starting Light Display Manager 1.9.6, UID=0 PID=977
[+0.78s] DEBUG: Session pid=1154: Sending SIGTERM
[+0.78s] DEBUG: Got signal 15 from process 977
The last line indicates that LightDM received a SIGTERM from itself. Immediately before that one of the sessions being authenticated was cancelled. It *looks* like perhaps the signal to quit the session has somehow quit the daemon.
