Saucy. 1.7.4-0ubuntu1

$ grep ^DAEMON /etc/init.d/lightdm
DAEMON=/usr/bin/lightdm

$ ls -l /usr/bin/lightdm
ls: cannot access /usr/bin/lightdm: No such file or directory

Are you using this file? It is for sysvinit, not the upstart file (/etc/init/lightdm.conf). It is however incorrect as you have pointed out.

Robert, Not normally using the sysvinit file, but I rebooted and got no greeter at all and went about trying to find out why and noticed this. I have a greeter by editing this script, and will learn later if something else I did makes it return.
