Bug Description

Binary package hint: light-themes

just nitpicking:

The first thing I do with my ubuntu desktop layout is to move the task basr into the top panel. The "window minimize/maximize" buttons do not make too much sense then, for example:

the Maximize button is a ^ , the minize button is a v. When I click the minimize button the window is zoomed out into the panel area. Which in turn feels "strange" as I press something that looks like an "down-arrow" and am invoking an animation to the top. The maximize icon looks like an "arraw to the panel", so people using my computer are assuming that by clicking on that arrow the window will "move into the panel", ie. gets minimized.

I know it sounds stupid, but I've seen people being confused when they try to figure out the buttons with my configuration. Maybe some direction agnostic icons would be possible?

cheers,
Andreas

My proposals :

revert to
minimize : minus
maximize : square
close : multiply

or
minimize : minus
maximise : plus
close : multiply

if it's not Apple's IP :)

I agree that the up/down implication of those button images is wrong. Minimize is NOT always down - I always move my window list to the top panel first thing after setting up a new computer. This would also be wrong for someone who likes a vertical panel.

I think it's probably to hard (impossible?) for the theme to detect the position of the window list's containing panel, so generic images would be most appropriate. I think using - and + sounds good for minimize and maximize. Not sure what to do for restore.

Also, the "up" implication doesn't make sense to mean "maximize" no matter where my window list is. Maximize means moving my window up somehow? No. That image should be totally replaced.

The Ubuntu Netbook Remix (UNR) always has the (only) panel at the top of the screen. So there the problem also occurs in the default configuration.

This might be an easy-to-fix show-stopper for the UNR.
