Bug Description

Today I received the new version of the default theme for Lucid. It looks nice, but the title bar buttons don't look right. The maximise/close buttons look fine, but the minimise button has a square-shaped indent around it which looks unfitting to me.

I'm not sure what you mean by Adium, the theme you're talking about looks like Radiance, which is one of the planned defaults.

affects: ubuntu → light-themes (Ubuntu)

I called it Adium after adium-theme-ubuntu, which is the package that provides the two new themes as far as I know, but I'm likely wrong.

This is because the button is rendered using an image, that include the "actual" button and the engraved effect. Take a look at /usr/share/themes/Radiance/metacity-1 directory.

I've to say that this is a really really bad choice for a metacity theme, 'cause it forces you to use the order chosen by the theme creator. Metacity, instead is more flexible, allowing to move buttons in desired location, or add spacers. Here is attached a comparison between Lucid default (max, min, close), Karmic default (min, max, close) and a custom one using spacer.

Only the fist one have a proper appearance, but a well behaving theme should act fine in all button layouts

I wonder if we should set this to be a duplicate of bug 532224?

That reminds me... Ubuntu Tweak gave me the option to shift around the buttons... I see now. Adjusting it to move the minimise button in between, it looks fine now.

Also another sub-bug I discovered: when windows have less buttons than usual (the screenshot is an example; it is a delete confirmation dialog with only a close button) there is potential for buttons that don't flow using the whole "capsule" shape - the screenshot depicts how the buttons only form a right semi-circle as there's only a close button.
