Can't skim through articles with Space or Alt-Space

Binary package hint: liferea

Liferea has a "Skim through preferences with:" option where the choices are Alt-Space, Control+Space and Space.
It seems that only Control+Space has any effect. Space doesn't do anything and Alt+Space shows the Windows menu (The one with Minimize, Maximize, Move, etc...)

I tried with my regular keyboard layout (France Alternative) and with USA layout and there's no difference.
