Liferea does not appear in Messaging Menu

What i expect to happen:
When i start Liferea i expect to see the icon in the message tray (system tray) area.

What happens:
Liferea starts, and the message tray flickers a bit (most likely trying to add the icon) but then nothing gets added.
If when i start liferea from terminal the only output is "set zoom: 1.00"

I have just tested it on a different Ubuntu setup. The bug is still there.

The tray icon does not appear even after whitelisting it and restarting:
gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['all']"

Oh, I have found it!
It is a submenu item of the envelope-shaped tray icon.

This was working for me in 13.10 with the Ubuntu Handbook PPA version. It is no longer working in 14.04 with the main repo version or the Ubuntu Handbook PPA version.
