Bug Description

View the special folder "Unread" in condensed view to read some unread messages.

Click the name of a feed in the left column.

Liferea crashes and leaves this in the terminal:

** ERROR **: file feed.c: line 1043 (feed_render): assertion failed: (0 != fp->loaded)
aborting...
Aborted

I cannot reproduce this bug with the default lifrea feeds. Which version of liferea are you using (dpkg -l liferea ) and if you close all liferea windows, move ~/.liferea to ~/.liferea.bak and start liferea can you reproduce the problem? If so can you give some basic steps that cause the problem e.g.:

1. Start liferea .
2. Click on Unread at the left.
3. Go to the View menu and ensure that Toggle Condensed View is on.

etc.

(remember to delete the new liferea dir before you move your backed up settings back)

ii liferea 1.0.6-0ubuntu2 feed aggregator for GNOME

1. Rename ~/.liferea to ~/.liferea.bak
2. Start liferea
3. Wait for the example feeds to load
4. Click "Unread" in the left column
5. Toggle Condensed View
6. Expand example feed folder; expand OSS folder.
7. Click on any of the feeds in the left column (e.g. GrokLaw)
Result: liferea exits

I just discovered that there's another possibility after step 5:
6. Do not expand anything
7. Click on "Example feed" folder
Result: Liferea does not respond anymore

- I also tried reinstalling liferea using Synaptic; this didn't change anything.
- While doing that, I saw that I'm using liferea with liferea-gtkhtml, not with liferea-mozilla.

- Maybe I should have mentioned this earlier... starting liferea in gnome-terminal gives this output:
(liferea:22660): Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib
(liferea:22660): Gdk-WARNING **: cannot set locale modifiers
A stale lockfile has been found, and was deleted.
No browser module configured!
trying to load browser module GtkHTML2 (liblihtmlg.so)
Unhandled property: 12 border-collapse

If you need more information; please let me know how to get it.

Thanks!

You could try with liferea-mozilla (and select the mozilla browser as renderer in the preferences). This is the default now as gtkhtml2 is pretty broken...

So I installed liferea-mozilla, (I did not uninstall the other one), then I changed the browser settings in the preferences dialog to "mozilla", restarted liferea, and the problem still exists...

I even tried renaming ~/.liferea with these settings, but again: no change.

Of course, when using the mozilla package, I do not get browser module errors anymore in my terminal... Here's the output after provoking the crash of Liferea with liferea-mozilla:

michael@mypc:~$ liferea

(liferea:23498): Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib

(liferea:23498): Gdk-WARNING **: cannot set locale modifiers
A stale lockfile has been found, and was deleted.

** ERROR **: file feed.c: line 1043 (feed_render): assertion failed: (0 != fp->loaded)
aborting...
Aborted

Anyway, the problem seems to be independent of the rendering library used.

Do you still have this issue with the latest liferea packages? I can't seem to reproduce this.

Sorry, I don't have liferea installed anymore... I'm using blam now, so I have no idea whether the bug is still there.

OK, I'll reject this for now. If anyone can still reproduce the bug, please feel free to re-open it.
