I have the same problem with several versions of opera. I have a segmentation fault every time.

This was confirmed on the forum too:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=401148
And on the opera forums:
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=183923

They say it's because of the libx11-6's upgrade

I can confirm this as well...You can fix this my downgrading to a previous version of libx11

I had the same problem after the upgrade; downgrading to 1.1.1-1ubuntu2 resolves the issue for me.

How do you make that downgrade?

If you goy the old packgage in your cache:
sudo dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/libx11-6_2%3a1.1.1-1ubuntu2_i386.deb

if not;
Downoload libx11-6_1.0.3-0ubuntu4_i386.deb from here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin/download.pl?arch=i386&file=pool%2Fmain%2Flibx%2Flibx11%2Flibx11-6_1.0.3-0ubuntu4_i386.deb&md5sum=411eac6b95a3af50d230263049efea62&arch=i386&type=main

and install it: sudo dpkg -i libx11-6_1.0.3-0ubuntu4_i386.deb

I also downgraded, because I could not live without Opera ;)
I found the package here: https://launchpad.net/+builds/+build/315774/libx11-6
After I installed it Opera ran smoothly, although installing this package only, gives me this in terminal:

nrg88@nrg88-desktop:~$ opera
ERROR: ld.so: object 'libjvm.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.
ERROR: ld.so: object 'libawt.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.

...but hey, Opera starts with the libx11-6-2:1.1.1-1ubuntu2 package.

Now we have another problem-It tries to update to the latest version of libx11 which causes problems to seg fault again. I think a package maintainer needs to remove this update.

I don't think this update will be removed, because this was a security update:

libx11 (2:1.1.1-1ubuntu3) feisty; urgency=low

  * SECURITY UPDATE: Multiple integer overflows in the XGetPixel()
    and XInitImage functions.
  * Add debian/patches/104_integer_overflows.diff: upstream fix.
