Bug Description

This is a feature request ticket.

Blockcommit makes snapshot/commit steps take fractions of a second instead of minutes. Perform efficient live disk backups using virsh blockcommit. This is possible with versions: QEMU 2.1 (and above), libvirt-1.2.9 (and above), but not any LTS version of Ubuntu.

Perhaps Trusty-Proposed?

I believe this feature is in the current 16.04 (xenial) version of libvirt. Can you ensure this works there first? Thanks

It works well in Ubuntu 15 and checking the package list for xenial shows ( http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/ )it has versions of qemu=2.5 and libvirt= 1.3.1 so it is a feature that is in 16.04 as well.

Not tested, but looks good.

There is still one bug 'bugging' me. I refer to https://bugs.launchpad.net/libvirt/+bug/1533728

If you run the procedure [create external snapshot] => [Active block commit] more than once, qemu won't allow you to create a new snapshot...

There is a patch released for Red Hat on Bugzilla.

If this could be processed on Xenial, that would be great!
