libv4l2: error turning on stream: Cannot allocate memory

I'm running Ubuntu Jaunty, libv4l-0 v0.5.8-1, and when I try to use my webcam (Acer CristalEye webcam), I get this error:

libv4l2: error turning on stream: Cannot allocate memory

This happens every time, with luvcview, gstreamer-properties, cheese....

The strange thing is that sometimes the webcam actually works. What kind of info do you need for this bug?

I hav an identical bug,

It doesnt work with msn webcam with amsn either,

I had no problems with this in 8.10

When the problem occurs for me on my vaoi VGN-FW140E, it ususally works fine right after a reboot, but then after not using the camera for a while (a perhaps a standy/resume cycle), it stops working and gives the error message.

I have the same problem with Jaunty on an HP 6930p with the built in "CKA7216" device. The webcam used to work on Intrepid.

When I log ınto xterm and launch cheese from there, ıt works; but when I log ınto Xfce ıt shows the mentıoned error message.

I see the same thing with cheese and my Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000. skype can use my webcam without trouble.

...wowever, when launched from gnome-panel rather than gnome-terminal, cheese is able to use my webcam, albeit a bit hyper saturated. (w/no effects turned on)

Here is the output from dmesg when cheese fails on my laptop under KDE. It starts with

and gets worse :)

I have the same error, I can use the camera for some time and then receive this error. I'm using Logitech C525, uvcvideo driver and a vanillia 3.7.1 kernel.
