Bug Description

Binary package hint: libv4l-0

I can't load my camera only with cheese using libv4l-0 0.5.6-1, I have this error in chesee --verbose "error converting / decoding frame data: v4l-convert: error destination buffer too small", I had to install the old version 0.5.0-3 that work well for cheese.

My webcam is a Cristal eye Acer 4720z

Sorry, for my bad English

This seems like a dupe from bug #298903

Can you check if the behaviour is the same? (starting cheese hangs for a while and then the webcam led turns on but cheese fails...)

Are you still having the issue with intrepid fully updated?

The camera works well with cheese, I mean when you turn on and off, but shows no image.
Now that I have the version 0.5.0-3 of libv4l-0 works well receción the pictures, my system is updated, but not the latest version of libv4l-0 is the 0.5.6-1 ~ intrepid1, because it does not work well with my camera.

My laptop is not the only one with this problem, that of a friend also had the same problem is acer 4315 with the same camera

thanks for the help

I can confirm this bug. I use Acer Crystal Eye webcam (04f2:b026) on Acer Aspire 4710. Just after installing Ubuntu 8.10, I installed cheese and WebcamStudio and they worked. After that, I updated libv4l-0 from 0.5.0 to 0.5.6-1 and they didn't work anymore. With cheese: the LED was on, but I could see a black image only. By running cheese from command line, I saw error "buffer too small" like above. With WebcamStudio, I coudn't turn on webcam. I've tried to downgrade libv4l-0 from 0.5.6-1 to 0.5.0 and they work again. Fully updating the system except libv4l-0 avoided this bug. So I can affirm that this bug belongs to libv4l-0.

I can also confirm that using libv4l-0_0.5.7-1 from ppa fixed problem.

Hello, I installed the new version of libv4l-0 0.5.7-1 from backports, and I must say that my webcam is working correctly, not only in cheese, as well as the other programs WxCam and amsn.

I think this update should include a general update
