SDL audio does not work in artful

To reproduce play any music file with mpv like this:

mpv --ao=sdl myfile.mp3

There is no sound and the time ticker does not advance. If you press q, mpv hangs trying to exit. If you hit ctrl-c in a debugger, the backtrace looks like this:

Using any other audio backend works.
