You can see the bug here.

I have installed KDE 4.7 recently, and bound the KDE theme to LibreOffice thanks to a package my distribution (ArchLinux) provides.

Without this package, I see the UI as in Java I suppose... Whatever,

With the KDE style, the UI is perfect, but the tooltips are written in black on a black background.

The only solution I've found at the moment is to change theme...

I am using the Oxygen colorset (default) in KDE (this is the colorset which puts the tooltips in blackOnBlack).

Deactivate/Reactivate tooltips in LibreOffice options does not fix the issue.

Georg H., this is unreproducible in a fresh install of Xubuntu or Ubuntu 11.10 without any desktop configuration changes. This seems KDE specific. Has the black letters on gray background always shown since installing or did you change something and then it showed up that way?

Hi Christopher,

good question. I had some problems during the installation process (e.g. skype:i386 -> bug in dpkg) or my openGL runs not very stable (Lenovo x121e (Intel I3 with integrated Intel HD 3000)) but I think I didn't change any desktop configuration.

Therefore I have tried the following:
1) Add a new user -> Login (KDE with KDE default settings) -> start libreoffice -> same result
2) Delete libreoffice-kde -> start libreoffice -> same result
3) Start a Kubuntu live system (USB stick with Kubuntu 11.10 Beta1) -> start libreoffice -> same result
4) All other applications don't seem to have this bug.

HTH, Georg

Georg H., marking Triaged Medium based on the provided screenshot. Seems a bug in libreoffice-kde. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport . If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

This bug also originaly affected OpenSUSE, but they fixed it by
introducing some patch.
Someone should investigate that patch in order to can apply it in Kubuntu.

Folks!
Here is the solution! (Thanks hepaly!)
Change the background colour of the tips in the system settings.
Here is a link of a pic, where can you find it: http://wstaw.org/m/2012/02/21/kde_lo.jpg
Sorry but the text is hungarian on it, but I'm sure you can use it to solve this problem, what isn't a bug.

I saw this happening in version: LibreOffice 3.4.4 OOO340m1 (Build:402) (current in Ubuntu Oneiric).
I found that the tooltip background and foreground colours obey the KDE text colour settings Tooltip Background and View Text, respectively.
(These are the names as listed under System Settings -> Application Appearance -> Colours -> Colours tab -> Colour set: Common Colours. They seem to have different names depending on where you go to edit them.)

I have since upgraded to the current Oneiric version in ppa:libreoffice/ppa (LibreOffice 3.5.0 Build ID: 350m1(Build:13)).
With this build, the colours are taken from Tooltip Text and Tooltip Background colour settings as expected.

So, someone has fixed this bug, and the Tooltip Background/View Text settings provide a workaround for older versions.
Of course, a backport would be nice, if any package maintainers are watching... ;)
