Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.

I thought I have made a very clear bug report. Please do read it. The problem is with CUSTOM ANIMATION not SLIDE TRANSITION. I referred to APERT as just an example, please sample other sounds also.

Note: I have tried example.odp. You did not use CUSTOM ANIMATION but use SLIDE TRANSITION instead. CUSTOM ANIMATION did not make the proper sound.

Thank you for your guidance. I have tried to be a descriptive as possible but unorganized as you have shown. I have no idea what bug it was in the very beginning. I wrote a question and started from there. Thought it was Ubuntu sound system at first as it affect all Ubuntu version I have tried. Updating LibreOffice did not get rid of the bug hence the assumption. Then I was ushered here.

I am happy that you have taken the time to interact with me.

If this very long time bug (which is true in Ubuntu) can be over come, impress can be more useful during presentation. It will be a very good first impression to the audience. :-)

If programmers are able to fluently program in java, c and c++, then
they would easily know how to test a simple bug in a program they
themselves developed! It is clear what Stanley is trying to say, if you
create an object (e.g. word art, test, shapes etc.), go click on Custom
Animation in the sidebar, click Add, choose an effect from the list,
click OK, click '...' to go into effect options, pick a sound, click ok,
press F5 to run the show and find that custom animation sounds don't work.

Playing audio along with individual slide events (not just slide transiitions) is a basic and fundamental feature of slideshow software. Slideshow software that does not have this feature has not yet reached public beta quality, let alone version 4.1. You cannot expect people to use Impress over alternatives with this bug in place.

It is absolutely a blocker according to the criteria. The last item on the list at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Release_Criteria#Blocker_Bug_Definition is "unusable function". Custom animation sound effects are currently an unusable function.

Demo file working by selecting a new sound and saving in 4.4

In LO 4.3 and 4.4 following the steps from Comment 5, I was NOT able to reproduce this bug. The slideshow played the sound. When I loaded the demo file and reselected a different sound, the slide played the correct custom animation sound during the slideshow.

Since newer files play sounds just fine, either impress-sound.odp is corrupt or there is an incompatibility with Impress playing sounds from presentations created with older versions. If that's the case, we should open a new report for that separate issue as this report is getting unwieldy.

Unzipping odp file, I see this in content.xml:

Taking a look at where could be apert.wav, I found it there:
/usr/lib/libreoffice/share/gallery/sounds

So first attachment can't work. An enhancement could be to indicate the file is not found and propose to modify the sound.

Julien's on the right track. If you create slide with an Animation Sound Effect and save it, it will work. If you copy that file to a different directory, the sound will no longer play. The reason why there was so much confusion over this bug, is that sound effect work until the file that they were created in is moved to a new location.

So the issue here is the sound player is using the full system path of the sound effect, instead of using the relative location of the sound effect within the ODP file.

The originally description is missing a few steps.
1. Create an impress slideshow with a custom animation
2. Save and close
3. Move the ODP file to a new location
4. Open moved file
5. Start the slideshow

The issue here is Impress is looking for the sound effect based on the full system path instead of the relative path within the ODP file.

This is not true. If you create a custom animation with a sound effect from the LibO gallery *on Linux*, it will not work at any point. You don't have to save, you don't have to move the file - it just won't work. I can reproduce this from scratch on Arch Linux with 5.2.3 / 5.3 and Ubuntu with 5.2.3. Same for version 3.6.7.2 on Arch.
On Windows it works perfectly.

Salamu Alaikum,

I've tested the two versions of LibreOffice Impress. The first one (LO-5.2.3.1) on Debian 9 Stretch 64bits and the second one (5.2.3.3) on Win XP 32bits.
Here is the link to both versions : https://www.dropbox.com/s/rigc2ctg71iel38/LibreOfficeVersions.png?dl=0

I Confirm, There is no sound, even without moving the created ODP Animation file.
I've tried to open the content.xml inside the ODP animation; and replace all sounds links with the Complete path from Root of my partition /home/myuser/Documents/MySoundFile.flac

But still no sound! This is a serious bug that has now some years without being solved.

Thank you in advance
I really hope it will be resolved very soon!

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3
. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/irc.freenode.net/#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

The bugdoc attachment 51048 does not play a sound in the slideshow nor when I edit the custom animation->Options->Preview Sound

If I create a new slideshow, insert shape, and add a custom animation with a sound. The sound does play in the Options->Preview Sound. If I preview the animation or start the slideshow, the sound does not play.

Created Bug 120569 to handle Comment 31, sound resource not found which affect both Linux and Windows machines, preventing even the Sound Preview from working.

I see you chose "Random effects". Maybe it can be considered a separate bug (I repro), but please try with "Appear" or any other effect besides the random.

I also repro this on Windows with 6.2.0, so it is not related to this bug or bug fix.

Already in 3.3.0 on Win 10 (tested 4.3.0 as well). Bogdan found this issue.

Dear Buovjaga,

To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3
. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/irc.freenode.net/#libreoffice-qa
