Bug Description

Binary package hint: libreoffice

Under Compiz/Unity running, floating LibreOffice window like "Styles and Formatting" cannot be docked to the main window with mouse operation.

How to reproduce:
 1. open [Format]-[Style and Formatting]
 2. move "Styles and Formatting" window to the right edge of the main window

Expected:
 docked to the main window

Happened instead:
 keep floating

As a workaround you can still Ctrl-Shift-Doubleclick to dock the Window.

Just a comment about the "regression-release" tag... This bug seems to affect Compiz users for years, I don't think it is a regression in any recent release. I have the problem since I'm using compiz (with OpenOffice.org and now with LibreOffice).

I'm not heavily involved in this stuff, so I may be wrong, but it seems to me that it's because of the way compiz deals with windows and displaying them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, compiz draws each window in a different "space" and then puts all these "display spaces" together on the screen ; this permits effects like wobbling windows easily. In that case, windows can't know their relative position to other windows. Without Compiz, X draws all windows in the same "space", which is directly displayed on the screen. Windows share the same "display space" and can know their relative positions.

That's why I didn't report this bug at first : it seemed to me that it is because of the way Compiz works. And maybe because I'm lazy too :-) Now that Nobuto reported it, I thought these precisions could be useful.

Björn Michaelsen,
Thank you for your information.
Although Ctrl-Shift-Doubleclick or Ctrl-Doubleclick do not work on my environmet, Ctrl+Shift+F10 works.

Sébastien Munch,
I can also confirm that this bug is NOT regression-release. I will remove the tag.

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.

The bug is present in libreoffice 3.5.4.2 with compiz 0.9.7.8.

Workaround: start Ubuntu 2D, move the window with styles browser and navigator, then switch back to Ubuntu (Compiz) session.

So as this works in unity 2D but not 3D assuming a fail in unity/compiz, but not in LibreOffice until proven otherwise.

This issue is no longer reproducible with current trusty environment:
libreoffice | 1:4.1.3-0ubuntu3 | http://jp.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64 Packages
    compiz | 1:0.9.10+13.10.20131011-0ubuntu1 | http://jp.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages
     unity | 7.1.2+14.04.20131106.1-0ubuntu1 | http://jp.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages

That means now we can dock/undock floating windows like [Style and Formatting] with mouse operation.
