Bug Description

Binary package hint: libreoffice

I'm the main responsible for the Catalan (Valencian) translation of the LibreOffice suite. This language is using at this moment the code ca-xv, but it's missing on the Ubuntu Natty packages, even though it can be downloaded from the official LibO website.

Could you please add this language to the Ubuntu Natty packages?

Thanks

Postponing this as it is wanted for 3.4 only. No changes for 3.3.2.

Having talked to everyone involved, we've decided to _not_ include the ca-xv translation in Natty for LibreOffice 3.3.2, as there were concerns from the translations maintainers themselves about the translation quality.

LO 3.4 does contain an updated and improved translation, though, which we will want to include for Oneiric. We'll leave the bug open and re-ping Björn when the time comes.

Perhaps this should be considered for tagging as a candidate for release notes, and an appropriate workaround documented.

Thanks for the consideration Fabián. That won't be necessary, as Catalan
Valencian users can also make use of the main Catalan language pack,
which is indeed shipped and set up when installing the system and
choosing either the Catalan or Catalan (Valencia) locale.

Hi,

The last versions of LibreOffice in Catalan (Valencian) include the correct translation. I'd like to ask for include this translation (package ca-XV) in the Ubuntu Repositories.

Thanks!!

Discussed with upstream (debian). This would not be automatically triggered by a locale like ca_ES@valencia and that has not been implemented upstream as it would break ODF. See discussion:

WONTFIX for now, could be changed if implements in a sane way upstream (at LibreOffice).

Pau Iranzo, as mentioned the issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport . If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

Hi Christopher, we're already in contact with some people at LibreOffice. The problem with the locale is that LibreOffice (so did OpenOffice.org) doesn't support the BCP-47 standard. This means that there is no way the can implement @ modifications (at this moment).

It seems that this is somewhat tricky and no one is going to take care of it right now. I guess that once they implement it, Debian developers will add it to the translation package.

I expected Ubuntu just to add this package even though the locale is wrong. The thing is that Ubuntu already implements the ca@valencia locale, but this doesn't include the LibreOffice ca-XV package (for reasons above). This means that the Catalan (Valencian) ubuntu isos that we're creating cannot install the ca-XV package directly, and we have to delete LibreOffice and install it again from the version from libreoffice.org (that means that then this package won't be upgraded).

But things have to be done in the right way. I completely understand that.

Thanks for your help and time!!

Should be fixed with 3.5.0-1ubuntu1 on precise, which was just uploaded:
