Bug Description

Binary package hint: libreoffice

LibreOffice Writer crashes when I use the spellchecker to correct a misspelled word. It happens instantly when I use the right click on the word or the keyboard to open the menu to correct. This happens with a .doc file. The misspelled text in a table is "0.8 g / cm ³". The error is in letter "g".

This happens to me often, randomly wanting to correct anything this close.

It seems to be something related to the IcedTea plugin (and OpenJdk)... I reproduced the bug trying to select a URL address within the document, right click (as if I were about to spell check/correct the thing) and then, presto... A sure crash...

This has happened to me both in Ubuntu (10.04) and Xubuntu (10.04)

Anthony David Atencio Moscote, thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. This is unreproducible using Ubuntu 10.10, LibreOffice Writer via the Terminal:

cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/718492/+attachment/1848607/+files/termo.doc && lowriter -nologo termo.doc

Highlight 0,8 g/cm³ -> secondary click, no crash.

If you update your PPA from 3.3.0 to 3.3.1 does this issue remain?

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade

If so, it would be very helpful if this can be reproduced in a Natty Live CD environment ( http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ ) as Apport Retracer will pull a lot of data from the crash that developers like to see.

Try with a random new document (it doesn't have to be the document referred on this bug report). On my case, I have been able to reproduce the bug several times (on Lucid, Ubuntu and Xubuntu), on several documents (new or old)

a) Create a new document.
b) Paste a misspelled word, or a URL address.
c) Right click on the misspelled word (or URL address)

The LibreOffice I'm using is the 3.3.1

Hi! I found similar problem as yours in LibreOffice 3 even when I'm
simply editing.

I'm wondering if you can fix it

Thanks in advance

Could you please specify your LibreOffice version, to help the developers? 3.3.0 or 3.3.1? Also, what version of Ubuntu are you on? Maverick, Lucid..?

This happens to me almost every time I select something that has a misspelled word or URL in it and I make secondary click. But when I disable the spell checker. This does not happen where URL is. I did it in a new document ODT.

I can reproduce the error if I select a sentence or paragraph with a URL or a misspelling in it. Also I did it disabling the use of java environment.
