Bug Description

I am trying to update a security patch for my computer. However, it will not update.
The patch is called Lenovo System Firmware 0.1.69 - 0.1.70. Whenever there a update or patch for my lenovo it either does not download and or won't install the software.

Libreoffice impress 7.0 keeps crashing every couple of minutes

I had this problem before I upgraded to ubuntu gorilla. I just upgraded my system and the problem is still there. I have an important presentation to complete for school. It does not save the presentation at 365 PowerPoint. When it is opened in 365 the slide text, transitions and sound does not display correctly.

I am using a
Lenovo thinkpad T590
Memory 15.4 gib
Processor Intel core i7

OS Name Ubuntu 20.10
OS Type 64-bit
Gnome Version 3.38.1
Windowing System X11

Hello Lillian, I suggest running the firmware update tool by hand to see if there's more information available there:

sudo fwupdmgr update

I'm not sure what to suggest for libreoffice; perhaps https://askubuntu.com/ would be a place to get more advice on how to work with imports or exports to other formats.

Thanks

Could you give some details. What frontend do you use? What error do you get?

It would also be useful to add the informations Seth requested

Thank you for looking into this issue for me.

I'm not clear on what is a frontend. The error I receive is "unable to update because it blocked" or something to that effect.

As far as the other issue with Impress, I have gone to the community pages but no one has successful found the solution or work around that will fix this issue. From my research, this issue is has been going on since about 2012 with Impress.

Please, let me know what other information you need to resolve these bugs.

Lillian

could you take a photo showing that error? the frontend would be the application you are using, it's unclear where that error is displayed

could you also try what Seth suggested?
$ sudo fwupdmgr update

Thank you for that. However, impress still crashes after 2 mintues of having it open. I have gone to the community boards and looked at bug fixes. From my research this problem has been going on since 2012. It starts the series of crashing once you add transitions to the presentation or sound. Now, i can't even keep it open long enough to remove them. Plus, it does not convert to PowerPoint 365 or even the older versions. Am I able to upload the presentation for you to b see?

I opened the odp presentation but Impress never crashes so it's not the presentation that is the problem and we need more information about the environment.

Lillian, please open a new bug about the impress issue by typing this in a terminal on your system:

ubuntu-bug libreoffice

In the description please mention:
1. The output of "cat /etc/os-release"
2. Capture the logs in a terminal while you generate the crash:
  - Open a terminal and do "journalctl -f"
  - Then open your presentation in impress and see it crash after ~2 min
  - go back to your terminal and copy/paste the logs generated into the description (and be sure to say in the bug description that this is what you did)
