Bug Description

After upgrading to (k)ubuntu 20.04.1, both with LibreOffice 6.4. and LibreOffice 7, mysql direct connector doesn't work any more (unlike in (k)ubuntu 18.04 and LO 6.0).
Mysql (mariadb, installed with lampp) is perfectly working in browsers: I can see php+mysql pages in localhost, without any problem.
But if I try to open a database odb connected with mysql I get an error message
[code]
    Code:

    SQL Status: HY000
    Error code: 2003
Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (111) /build/libreoffice-ron9it/libreoffice-7.0.0~rc3/connectivity/source/drivers/mysqlc/mysqlc_general.cxx:119
[/code]
I believe that is a problem of mysql-connector provided with Ubuntu, in the past so useful (because LO extension are not working).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1892635/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

I have reported this bug here (https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=134982), but the coclusion is that this is not their fault, but yours.
Are you doing something to resolve this bug?
Thanks

Hmm I read through the comment history in the upstream bug you pointed to and I'm not convinced it is a problem in Ubuntu either because of the final two comments. Alex set it up in Linux Mint (which a previous comment correctly pointed out that it pulls the relevant packages from Ubuntu) and it worked just fine.

Could you try some of the suggestions the upstream developers recommended?

Already tried.
Too time wasted.
You say: it is not our fault. LibreOffice say: it is not our fault. Apechefriends say: it is not our fault. Now it turns out it's the users fault. What a nightmare!
We were never asked to jump through hoops to get mysql-direct-connector to work. Why we are being asked now?
Thank you.
