format --> character menu has font preview ovelapping

To reproduce open a new presentation in libreoffice impress on Lubuntu 20.04. Then in the menu open Format --> Character then for liberation sans the default font has the letters all overlapping in the font preview.

I expected the letters in the font preview to not be overlapping. Instead the letters all appear overlapping in the preview but do not appear that way in the main window of libreoffice impress.
