Bug Description

Normal effects *work*: Wipe, Wheel, Uncover, Bars, Checkers, Shape, Box, Wedge, Venetian, Fade, Cut, Cover, Dissolve, Comb, Push, Split, Diagonal.

3D-Effects *don’t work*: Tiles, Cube, Circles, Helix, Fall, Turn Around, Iris, Turn Down, Rochade, 3D Venetian, Static, Fine Dissolve, Vortex, Ripple, Glitter, Honeycomb, Newsflash.

Normal effects works perfectly, 3D-effects either don't work at all or when played with F5, shows a flashing screen.
Tearing is also seen. Hardware acceleration is checked.
Animations don't repeat when checked "Repeat until next slide" or "Repeat until next click".

Can you confirm that the option to use hardware acceleration is checked under "Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View" ?

I am seeing tearing when playing 3D transitions fullscreen on an external monitor, that's with the libreoffice snap (version 6.1.3.2) on cosmic (Ubuntu 18.10).

Description:
(initially reported on ubuntu: https://launchpad.net/bugs/1797373)

Normal effects *work*: Wipe, Wheel, Uncover, Bars, Checkers, Shape, Box, Wedge, Venetian, Fade, Cut, Cover, Dissolve, Comb, Push, Split, Diagonal.

3D-Effects *don’t work*: Tiles, Cube, Circles, Helix, Fall, Turn Around, Iris, Turn Down, Rochade, 3D Venetian, Static, Fine Dissolve, Vortex, Ripple, Glitter, Honeycomb, Newsflash.

Normal effects works perfectly, 3D-effects either don't work at all or when played with F5, shows a flashing screen.
Tearing is also seen. Hardware acceleration is checked.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a new presentation in impress
2. Apply 3D transitions to slides
3. Start the slideshow with F5

Actual Results:
Some 3D transitions don't work at all (remain black), some flash/tear quite visibly.

Expected Results:
3D transitions are rendered smoothly.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

OpenGL enabled: Yes

Additional Info:

summary: - 3D slide transitions don't work at all or when played there is flashing
- screen

Thank you for reporting the bug.
Could you please try to reproduce it with a master build from http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/ ?
You can install it alongside the standard version.
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the master build

I can confirm with 6.2, although I've got a couple extras that didn't work:

Fade, Cut, Tiles, Cube, Circles, Helix, Fall, Turn around, Iris, Turn down, Rochade, 3D venetian, Static, Fine dissolve, Vortex, Ripple, Glitter, Honeycomb, Newsflash.

Sometimes nothing happens, sometimes there's that tearing happening.

Removing hardware acceleration doesn't change anything.

Please accept my apologies. The issues I saw had to do with broken 3D acceleration in the VMs I used to test this. I can confirm this is in fact working in the 6.3.3 deb from:

https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/?type=deb-x86_64

This issue is still present downstream in Ubuntu however, but that's my problem not yours.

Same here on Dell XPS 13 (9333) / Xubuntu 19.10 / LO 6.3.3. 3D slide transitions don't work at all, but **only** when I use the **default distro packages**. OpenGL 3D transitions are broken within Debian / Deepin / Ubuntu, Fedora and even Manjaro/Arch Linux (see https://www.reddit.com/r/libreoffice/comments/9g4ets/libreoffice_impress_61_doesnt_show_3d_transitions for example).

When I install Impress via FLATPAK or SNAP, 3D transitions/animations work as expected. It is like this for the last 5+ (!) years (just google for "Impress" "3D" "transitions", to get search results ranging anywhere between 2011-2019).

Does anyone know why OpenGL 3D transitions are not working in almost ANY distribution by default? How come that nobody fixed it for so many years? It is hard to believe that distribution maintainers did not notice it. And the fact that it works when you download the DEB packages from LibreOffice.org website instead of **the official repo** makes it even more bizarre : /

Heather Ellsworth (hellsworth) wrote :

I just tested this on 20.04 with the 6.4.0-0ubuntu3 deb as well as the 6.4.0.3 snap.

For each package type, I created one of each of the 8 3D images available, on 8 different slides. I animated two of the images. In both the deb and snap, each 3D image looked fine when in slide show mode and transitioning slides went smoothly.

In the case of the snap, the animations played in normal edit mode (max loops) and in slide show mode. Transitioning to and from the slide was smooth.

In the case of the deb, the animations did not play in either normal edit mode or in slide show mode.

This bug covers two things: the slide transitions + animations. The slide transitions issues seem to be fixed and here is the relevant upstream commit: https://salsa.debian.org/libreoffice-team/libreoffice/libreoffice/commit/f107a8a2aeaa7714a13f80cd807cca0c84519306

However the animations are still broken in the deb.
