I've given an example of 'a quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog' and a screenshot of a Writer document and its PDF export in Document Viewer side by side.

Edit: on second thoughts, I think the below seemed to change the situation because it meant I logged into the Ubuntu session instead of the Ubuntu on Xorg session. The bug is simply that fonts look 'thinner' than they should in the LibreOffice snap on Wayland, and it's only the snap that's affected.
