Bug Description

When copying simple text with CTRL-C CTRL-v (or menu or context menu) between programs, I have noticed that some combinations work but other do not (no text is pasted).

Gedit -> LibreOffice: No text pasted
LibreOffice -> Gedit: No text pasted

Firefox -> LibreOffice: OK
LibreOffice -> Firefox: Not text pasted

Geany -> Gedit: OK
Gedit -> Geany: Not text pasted

Geany -> LibreOffice: OK
LibreOffice -> Geany: No text pasted

Geany -> Firefox: OK
Firefox -> Geany: OK

OK means the copy/paste happened normally, with the text appearing normally when pasting.
In Firefox I used the text area I am using right now at bugs.launchpad.net.
In LibreOffice I used Calc's formula bar.

It was working fine before I upgraded to 18.04

Thanks for your report. It seems you're running Wayland. Does it work under Xorg (select the session Ubuntu on XOrg on the login screen)?

@jibel: I can not try that, as XOrg does not work on my system. Is XOrg a requirement to use LibreOffice or Gedit?

No it is not a requirement but there are some issues with Wayland and copy paste between application could be one of them.

Not observing that here, copy-pasting works from libreoffice writer to firefox (up-to-date bionic, tested both Xorg and Wayland sessions, with Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V shortcuts).

Both source and target remains to be open at the same time in order to make clipboard work. Wayland unfortunately does not store the clipboard after source application closes.

I forgot to mention in the bug description that I did not close any of these applications during the test.

I can confirm this bug - I am running Wayland. Sometimes random applications does not store copied content into the clipboard. Their restart can solve it.
