Libreoffice calc Version: 4.2.8.2 Build ID: 420m0(Build:2) hangs repeatedly

Libreoffice calc hangs for a long time when trying to open files of any type. This becomes more pronounced if the file has data links to web resources. The problem also occurs when trying to create a new file and re-opening it after save and close.
