Sorry, I must be an old-timer... I meant from 14.04 lts to 15.10 or 16.04.

Turns out the upgrade was to Xenial (16.04)

I'm setting this bug to Incomplete as it's not seen any activity since the official release of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. If this is still an issue on a maintained version of Ubuntu please let us know.
