Bug Description

1) I have a file filing-lables.ods with one column and 31 rows. The first record contains the field name and the content is "label"
2)LibreOfficeBase > Connect to an existing database > Spreadsheet > next
3) Location filing-labels.ods Next
4) Yes, register the database for me, Open the database for editing > Finish
5) Save filing-labels.odb > Save, I now have a Table "Sheet1" which when opened has the contents of the 30 rows with the label "label"
6) File > New > Labels Database - filing-labels Table sheet 1 Database field "label" <=
7) Format Avery Letter Size 5160 Address
8) Options Entire page. Synchronize contents, Printer - my default printer
9) Insert fields, Other, Mail merge fields, "label"
10) Insert fields, Other, Next Record
11) Synchronize Labels - they all say "label

Step 10 is broken

A rather old bug but apparently stil open, so I can confirm.

Similar behaviour on my machines (Win-7 + LO 4.4.5.2 - Ubuntu 14.04 + LO 4.2.8.2)

I tried to merge with two records on one page. Next record does _not_ move to following record within the page.
Have tested with 14 records which should produce 7 pages, but effectively result in 14 Pages with one record on each page duplicated.

Tracked it down to sth. broken in "Next record" as in my german version I need to change its condition from "TRUE" (w/o quotes)
to "WAHR" if i want any content to be displayed. Values like 1, true or formulas like "1 == 1" lead to empty fields and are not interpreted as true as is stated in the documentation.

In a lenghty thread here http://www.oooforum.de/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=66666&sid=0f9402539c0792064978220f6c213d06
others explain, that my files work correctly on their machines.

Jim Tarvid, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

Could you please attach an example document that this is reproducible with?

I now have a clearer Idea of what (at least in my case) went wrong, and it is not related to "Next record" being broken, but to the mail merge assistant.

I was fooled by my assumption of the merge mail assistant producing wysiwyg output in step 6, where it lets you check the contents of the fields inside your merging template document.
The assistant does fill fields with data, but does not recognize the next record field correctly, as can be seen in the attached example files.
What I did was stop here, as the document was clearly not looking as I intended it to. That led me to the idea that I needed to change sth. in the document to fix the problem. Had I printed it, everything would have looked correctly.

I do think, that the program should provide a way to inform the user of this problem, either by a note in the documentation or by indicating it somewhere in the GUI/assistant. IMHO best would be to change the assistant and make it recognize the Next record field better.

Thomas Wailersbacher, it will help immensely if you filed a new report with the Ubuntu via a terminal:
ubuntu-bug libreoffice

Please feel free to subscribe me to it.

For more on why this is helpful, please see:

Also, please don't tar/compress files as it makes it harder for developers to review and fix.
