Bug Description

In Calc, opening a file with unspecified file-type results in that file being opened in Writer.
Clearly, this wrong.
(I am guessing that) this could be fixed by letting Calc set the file-type to default to "Spreadsheets".

I tested this and confirmed if it thinks its a text type file it will open it in writer. It is an important feature of a spreadsheet to occasionally call in a text file to convert it to a spreadsheet use.

This release of Ubuntu is no longer receiving maintenance updates. If this is still an issue on a maintained version of Ubuntu please let us know.
