"Save As" Dialog Not Coming Up

Bug Description

When I need to print an envelope, I use the attached file as a template. I open it up, change the address information, and I'll usually save it as a new filename if I intend to mail that company or person in the future. (See attachment "Envelope.odt")

However, when I click the "Save As" option, from the "File" menu (in libreoffice writer), no dialog is coming up (that would allow me to save my changes under a new file name and location).

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10
Package: libreoffice-writer 1:3.6.2~rc2-0ubuntu3
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-17.28-generic 3.5.5
Uname: Linux 3.5.0-17-generic x86_64
NonfreeKernelModules: wl
ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu3
Architecture: amd64
Date: Tue Oct 23 19:48:18 2012

 PATH=(custom, no user)

Hmm, now it is working. Sometimes it doesn't though....

Do you experience this for other dialogs? None of the dialogs are opening for me.

I can't speak for other dialogs. Right now, I can't reproduce this bug (even on the "Save As" dialog -- as reported).

It has occurred more than once for me, yet I can never seem to *intentionally* reproduce it.

description: updated

I can verify that this occurs, though I can't ever dependibly reproduce it either. I have found, however, that selecting the save as menu option with the mouse doesn't work, the keyboard shortcut (ctrl-shift-s) will work. So some bug in the menus maybe?

We had this problem at a local Ubuntu Hour tonight -- a new user showed up who was trying to figure out how to export a spreadsheet from LibreOffice to XLS format. In LibreOffice Calc he brought up Export (the dialog appeared), didn't see an XLS option, cancelled the dialog, then tried Save as and no dialog appeared. From then on, neither Save as nor Export did anything at all -- no dialog.

Could this possibly be related to unity's moving of the menus? I've never seen anything like that running LibreOffice under openbox (but I've only run it on Pangolin, and the machine with the problem tonight was Quetzal).

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Changed in libreoffice (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

I got this multiple times today on may recently updated quantal machine.
At the beginning all Dialogs (used manual breaks-Dialog multiple times) open just fine from menu. But after a while menu-clicks just won't open anything. Shortcut are still working though.
If I close all Libreoffice Instances and open my document once again, everything works as expected (dialogs open from menu) for a short time. Now menu-clicks just won't open anything, again.

Hi, this afect me to. It's start to happen when the fix of bug #1064962 was installed and i think this bug it's related with bug #1075263

Yes, this has been happening to me running Ubuntu 12.10 x64 and LibreOffice Version (Build ID: 360m1(Build:2)) the dialog boxes are not displaying. When it occurs all dialogs won't display which requires closing all LO documents and reopening them. Then they'll usually turn on.

Happens often here as well.

Ubuntu 12.10, LibreOffice

It's when I open an existing doc, make edits and that I randomly find that NONE of the menu options that use dialogs work... no save, save as, export, printing, etc... save, export and print icons work however. Since there is no "save as" icon you cannot use this feature.

I discovered that if I create a new doc, copy all from the old, paste it into the new. The new doc's dialogs work fine so I can then save my work.

That's a good observation. It does indeed seem to occur when you are opening an existing document (like the one I've attached in #1).

I'm just here for a me too! I get no dialog box for a Save As..., Export.. or even Tools -> Options. Keyboard shortcuts seem to work.

Having the same annoying bug on Ubuntu 12.10. I can confirm that it comes up when working with existing documents. No dialog boxes show up. Can not use "Save As" function. But I cannot reproduce this every time. Had this problem for a long time, but still don't know when this happens.

This is marked as a duplicate of #1085169 (which is fixed) but it's a different bug. This one still happens in Ubuntu 16.04. Unmarking.
