Bug Description

Libre Offices's global menu does not appear randomly when opening the application.

I have found the following steps reproduce it everytime for me. I have attached a video which should make it clearer, but will type it as well:

- Restart/log into ubuntu
- Open nautilus
- Open a .ODT file [Global menu not shown], close,
- Open a .DOC file [Global menu not shown], close,
- Search 'Wr' and open 'Writer' in dash [Global menu lags slightly, then shows properly], close,
- Open dash again and launch 'Writer' [Global menu shows properly, in fact launched before I hovered over],
- Lock Writer to launcher, close,
- Open Writer from launcer [Global menu not shown], close,
- Unlock from launcher, close
- Open dash and launch 'Writer' [Global menu not shown], close,
- Open dash and launch 'Writer' [Global menu not shown], close,

These steps happen the same everytime. But in general, is seems to happen randomly. Please see video. Running latest quantal updates. Note I'm using linux 3.2.0-30-generic as I'm having problems with my optimus graphics card with the latest version.

Let me know if I can help any further.

Is there any reason it says 'Package: libreoffice (not installed)' ?

Did I do something wrong? I used 'ubuntu-bug libreoffice'

Anyway, it's Version 3.6.1.2 (Build ID: 360m1(Build:2))

I to have the same issue. I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 beta 1 on 3 computers and get this issue. It only seems to work if libreoffice is opened and then a document is opened in to it.

If multiple UI's are installed like Lubuntu desktop, the libreoffice menu does not appear at all. The only solution until this bug is fixed is to remove the the following:

sudo apt-get remove libreoffice-gtk

This will allow you to run libre office still, but it then looks like its running in windows xp mode which is kind of odd, but it functions very well and doesn't look to bad.

I hope they sort this bug its blooming annoying.

I have the same issue on Dell Ultrabook XPS13 with Quantal Beta 1 and LibreOffice build 3.6.1.2 (Build ID: 360m1(Build:2)). The Quantal version is 64 bit. Kernel 3.5.14-17

I have this issue on my 64 bit 12.10 (LO 3.6.1.2). Very inconsistent - I cannot seem to find any cause at all. When I do get a menu I am then faced with Bug #1051556 and Bug #1045353

Bug still exist with kernel 3.5.0-15 and after system update up to 9/21 (after Beta 2 freeze). I confirm what wrote Shanekiper, whic is that when I

sudo apt-get remove libreoffice-gtk

then, I can use the Libreoffice in a "windows like" design. When I re-install it (actually libreoffice-gtk 1:3.6.1~rc2-1ubuntu5 ) then the bug re-appears. Along with it seems another bug: selecting text on screen (on Writer) to cut or copy is instable. The selection usually vanish before I have a chance to Ctrl-C.

In the "windows like" environment the behaviour is normal. If I can help in any way ....

Global menu is an Ubuntu thing, so this probably can't be reproduced in the upstream version.

Does installing package "libreoffice-gtk3" make any difference?

Just upgraded (10/10/2012) and my lo-menubar package has been removed.
Now I don't have any more menus in LibreOffice. Seems pretty consistent here : I could not get the menu to show at least 9 out of 10 times.

I have the same, after ugrade and LibreOffice 3.6.2.2. I have found a workaround which works 90% of the time : just press twice F7, once for opening the check Spelling window and again to close it. Menus appears then most of the time.
