Bug Description
In writer, if I press the left mouse button over some text, then move the mouse around with the left button still pressed, a selection is created as it should, but after less than one second this selection is discarded. However, I can select text normally using the keyboard (using SHIFT and the arrow keys).

Yeah, I have the same problem with LO-Writer.
(I dont know how see my system information).
| Benji (sandoval-alvarez) wrote : | #4 |
The last libreoffice update (today 13 sep) does not solve the problem.

I see the same thing but have noticed that it is related to time: try making very fast selections with the mouse and it works; take normal time and the selection underway drops.
Another work around if you want to select a whole word or string of whole words: double click first word and hold button down on second click and drag. Mostly works.

Is this only an issue on Quantal? Does it happen with window managers other than Unity?
| Julien Olivier (julo) wrote : | #7 |
@leighman: I didn't have this bug in Precise, and I have this bug in gnome-shell.
| royden (ryts) wrote : | #8 |
@ Jack Leigh: same issue in lxde (lubuntu) desktop with latest Libre Office.
| Jack Leigh (leighman) wrote : | #9 |
It is fixed in the upstream master build. I will try and check whether it has made it into a 3.6 build.
You could check 3.6.2 RC1 build if you are able http://

This should be a high importance bug. Basic functionalities like these may not be broken, and the Quantal release isn't that far away anymore. As of today, it is still not working with the latest packages from the repositories.
Hi Jack,
I have installed LibreOffice Version 3.6.2.2 (Build ID: da8c1e6) as you suggested and can confirm the bug is fixed there.
Any ideas as to whether this will make it into Quantal in time?
| Jack Leigh (leighman) wrote : | #13 |
@Bjoern, could you please clarify on this? I know there was some issue with the LibO release schedule.

I have LO 3.6.2.2 in the current Quantal version, and I can't reproduce it.

For what is worth, I was having this problem but now with libreoffice-writer 1:3.6.1~
I have an up to date system as of 8th Oct and can confirm the big still exists
3.6.1~rc2-1ubuntu5
Version 3.6.1.2 (Build ID: 360m1(Build:2))
Yes, it's still broken for me as well. And don't bother upgrading to the packages from proposed, because even though -this- bug is fixed there, many worse bugs are introduced; especially for non-Unity users.

Sorry for the noise, Adam and Kevin are right. Selecting text did work with a single strike with the touchpad but that's it. If you lift your finger to select more text the current selection is gone.

Adding an attachment I showed Björn last week to illustrate the issue.
Also, the bug has been marked as Fix released without any upload having actually fixed or without any further explanation, so reverting it to New.

The version from quantal-proposed fixed the issue for me, so now the Fix Committed status actually applies \o/
It'd be good to hear if that fixed it for everyone.

Just tested 3.6.2~rc2-ubuntu3 in Quantal proposed and it did fix this very issue for me.
This has just landed through the regular channels, and it has indeed fixed the issue.
fixed with 3.6.2~rc2-0ubuntu3

I can confirm this in Quantal with LO 3.6.1 and that is has cleared with the upgrade to 3.6.2.2. Needed a dist-upgrade.

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.
