upgrading Ubuntu clobbers libpam-unix2 config

Bug Description

I have libpam-unix2 installed for its Blowfish password format support.

So, in /etc/pam.d I've edited common-{account,auth,password,session,session-noninteractive} so that pam_unix2.so is used instead of pam_unix.so.

When I upgrade packages, the libpam-runtime upgrade asks:

  "Override local changes to /etc/pam.d/common-*?"

Of course I need to say yes, to receive the latest versions of those files.

But then I have to re-integrate the config changes I need to use pam_unix2.so, which is laborious.
Worse, accounts with Blowfish passwords are temporarily unavailable during this time.

So, it would be handy if I could upgrade lipam-runtime without clobbering my pam_unix2.so customizations.

I'm not sure how that could best be accomplished. It feels like Blowfish password support is a 2nd class citizen, which seems like a shame.
