Bug Description

Binary package hint: libpam-mount

1)
$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=10.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=lucid
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 10.04 LTS"

2)
$ apt-cache policy libpam-mount
libpam-mount:
  Installed: 1.32-2
  Candidate: 1.32-2
  Version table:
 *** 1.32-2 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3)
I had pam_mount set up to mount a few CIFS shares, and it worked great under 8.04. I just did a clean install of 10.04, added my volume definitions to /etc/security/pam_mount.conf.xml exactly as they were in 8.04. I expected it would work in the same manner.

4)
Nothing gets mounted when a user logs in. I turned on debugging (<debug enable="2" />), and pam_mount says (via syslog) that there are no volumes to mount. For the record, I can mount these shares manually from the 10.04 system using "mount -t cifs ...".

I had a similar issue. My issue was because %USER now returns domain\user format. I switched it to $(DOMAIN_USER) and it corrected that issue. Sadly, it leads to other issues.

Using %(DOMAIN_USER) did in fact solve the problem. Thank you.

Guys does anyone have any working smbfs/cifs configurations with libpam-mount to share? I am having trouble connected to the Windows Shares. I get the dreaded "no volumes to mount" error and I get nowhere! any ideas?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on the most recent Ubuntu LTS version, 12.04. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #> and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
