Normal notifications don't appear

Binary package hint: libnotify4

I currently do not see any notifications with importance <= normal. that is:

To reproduce:

1. sudo apt-get install libnotify-bin
2. notify-send -u low hello hello - nothing happens
3. notify-send -u normal hello hello - nothing happens
4. notify-send -u critical hello hello - notification is displayed as expected

It seems that I no longer get any notifications at all from any applications, with one exception: volume changes (the ones that are flush to the top of the screen) still show up. Not sure if this bug should therefore be reported against another package.

I figured out the cause of this: it's because I am running a game fullscreen in a wine virtual desktop. For some reason this sets me as away from the computer.

I am seeing the same issue, when I have a fullscreen VNC application running in another desktop. This should be fixed

The bug is still present in oneiric (11.10), I had just evince displaying a full-screen PDF on one of my desktops and I wondered why no notification were displayed.

I was just trying to figure out why notify-send wasn't working. Turns out, having used the browser fullscreen blocked all notifications until I did a critical urgency one, then all others start working. Ubuntu 12.04
