The system recognize corretly my nikon coolpix 880, but nothing is imported.

Can anyone have the solution other than lock 2.2.1 version?
Thanks,

I experienced the same problem with Canon PowerShot A700.

Solution: edit /etc/udev/rules.d/45-libgphoto2.rules so that the beginning of the file is as it was in the older version, i.e. no "*":

# udev rules file for libgphoto2
#
ACTION!="add", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_end"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb_device", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_real"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_real"
BUS!="usb", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_end"

LABEL="libgphoto2_rules_real"

SYSFS{idVendor}=="0553", SYSFS{idProduct}=="0202", MODE="0660", GROUP="plugdev"
SYSFS{idVendor}==...
(the rest is OK)

Confirm. Same here. Feisty on amd64 with libgphoto 2.3.0-ubuntu4.
With udev rules from above the device is found but the problem remains (even after restart of udev init.d service).
The camera is Nikon CoolPix 990.

Same problem here, however, the log output looks a little different as it appears that Nikon drivers are missing from libgphoto2.2 but perhaps I am wrong.

The file is attached.

Any news?
I've tried everything from this thread and even removed all the conditions from 45-libgphoto2.rules, so it starts away with ATTRS... meaning rules will be executed on every udev event, but alas no luck...

I install a virtual ubuntu dapper, using VirtualBox, and now when I want to
read my photos I use this virtual machine.

Nikon Coolpix 990 and Canon EOS Digital Rebel worked with gphoto2 in my Dapper system. None of them works in my new and clean Feisty setup.
I can't import photos, I can't do remote capture and symptoms are always the same as described here - I hope that someone is going to fix it since gphoto2 is unusable right now.

Me too. Nikon Coolpix 990 used to connect (albeit with a very long wait to load the camera driver) on Dapper/6.10. Now, using Feisty/7.04 it fails outright. This appears to be a genuine regression.

Camera Import starts as soon as the camera is plugged in to the USB port but I get an error message in the Import Photos window. It is " An error occurred in the io-library ('Error updating the port settings'): Could not release interface 0 (Invalid argument)."

Same here with Nikon Coolpix 990 and Feisty (libgphoto2 2.3.0).
I noticed a strange folder on the SD-Card in the Nikon. I wasn't sure if that was due to gphoto2 strangeness. So I reformatted the card.
Then I installed gtkam via "Add/Remove...".
I could download 2 photos with gtkam, but it worked only once. Strange flaky error...

I just was able to recreate the successful download with gtkam.
1. Start gtkam an manually "add camera" and choose Nikon Coolpix 990 on USB port, with slower speed of 57600 under "enhanced" and "allow multiple frontends" checked.
2. Quit gtkam.
3. Connect the camera and switch camera on (Dial "Play" on the Coolpix)
4. Start gtkam again, walk the file hierarchy slowly and with single clicks to the folder named "100NIKON", download photos with right-click and "save" on thumbnail. (you have to check "Save photos" in the save dialogue). It seems to be sensitive to doubleclicks on folders, by which I mean it stalls when downloading the thumbnails.

I forgot to say that the previous worked after a system reboot and my libgphoto2 file in /etc/udev/rules.d was changed at line 3 as follows:
SUBSYSTEM!="usb_device", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_end"
