Also, gphoto2 requires 2.6.28.2 to work, 2.6.28 and 2.6.28.1 are known to be broken in regards to libusb usage.

At the time it was the ubuntu -4-generic kernel, though usb seems to
be iffy with -6 also. Sudden disconnects and apps crashing.

That's quite old; report with newer active version if needed
