The icons are missing from the context menus and buttons , since i updated :
libgnome2-0 (2.26.0-1ubuntu1) to 2.27.5-0ubuntu1
I believe libgnome2-0 is the cause of the problem, because there was a mention of the Update default properties for menus_have_icons, buttons_have_icons in this change list:
