Seems not to be a hardware dependent issue, I've got this with an Authentec AES2501 Fingerprint Sensor.

I think this device simply isn't supported and never was. At least I can find any sign of it on fprint's web site.

Same device not working on a Latitude E6410, using 11.04 alpha . I'm wondering why latitude e6410 is listed as an 'ubuntu certified device' if its contains hardware that is not supported...

Hopefully without coming across as "this affects me too" spam, I just want to mention that Dell seems to continue to include this device in their newer models. My Latitude E6520 (the new Sandy Bridge version) came with one.
