Bug Description

I have tried with two different sets of "Sapphire and Steel: The Complete Series (Repackaged) [2008] [DVD] [1979]".

I can play disk 1 very nicely (VLC), but disk 3 is *very* difficult for libdvdread. Disk 2 has problems only with title 6. Other disks not tested yet.

Nothing wrong with DVDs itself, I managed to play disk 3 with another windows based DVD player.

I managed to watch "Sapphire and Steel: The Complete Series (Repackaged) [2008] [DVD] [1979]" disk 3 with original setup, after I changed region code from 1 to 2.

libdvdread4 is not tested with region 2 DVDs?

Onkar Shinde (onkarshinde) wrote :

libdvdread is not responsible for reading/cracking encryption information (CSS) on DVDs. This task is handled by libdvdcss2 which is not hosted in Ubuntu repositories at all.

Apart from that newer DVD drives (those with RPC-2 firmware) may refuse to read the DVD if appropriate region match is not found. There is nothing libdvdcss2 can do in such cases.

Hi Teräslilja, from the comments it looks like this is not a bug in libdvdread but rather in libdvdcss. Bugs in that aren't tracked here in Ubuntu, so you should report the bug upstream. Here is a link to the upstream bug tracker, for your convenience:

  https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/

You'll need to register with that bug tracker in order to file bugs there.

Hope that helps. Since the bug isn't in software included in Ubuntu I'm going to close this bug report at this time. Good luck!
