gnome-disk-utility warns me about bad disk sectors but tools downloaded on other systems seem to agree that the disk has no such issue, seems to be a bug in libatasmart rather than a disk issue

Thanks for your report. Indeed this is a duplicate of bug 438136, but I asked you to file a new one to get the smart blob.

However, in this case atasmart is actually working as designed (unlike the implausibly high raw error counts that it often reports, see https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25772#c6):

 reallocated-sector-count 77| 1| 63 FAIL_PAST 1783 sectors Pre-fail Online

So, this isn't failing just yet according to the SMART standards (77 is still above the treshold of 63), but if I were you I wouldn't count on that hard disk very much any more, and replace it soon. :-)
