Testing Karmic alpha 4, I get an alarming message when booting into Gnome that I have a disk error and have to check it out. The new palimpsest disk utility tells me I have bad sectors, but smartctl tells me my disk is fine. I trust smartctl. This is a known bug upstream. |
Testing Karmic alpha 4, I get an alarming message when booting into Gnome that I have a disk error and have to check it out. The new palimpsest disk utility tells me I have bad sectors, but smartctl tells me my disk passes but has 1 bad sector. I trust smartctl. This is a known bug upstream.
My smartctl log shows an Offline_Uncorrectable raw count of 1, so there is a bad sector.
Could Palimpsest be somehow less annoying or more helpful, for example by allowing me to tell it not to warn me every time I log in unless something bad has changed, or to show me how to fix errors that are fixable. |

I fixed my error following the instructions here:
