Bug Description

[Impact]
The support for Intel VROC technology requires both kernel and userspace components. The kernel components have landed in 4.14 and are available in Bionic. In order for users to take advantage of VROC in their deployments, the following userspace packages are also needed in Bionic:

ledmon - Enclosure LED Utilities
Upstream project: https://github.com/intel/ledmon

mdadm - tool to administer Linux MD arrays (software RAID)
Upstream project: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/utils/mdadm/mdadm.git/

This SRU is about ledmon; it is being handled in bug #1668126.

This SRU falls under the hardware enablement category.

[Test Case]
1.Install mdadm and ledmon
$ sudo apt install mdadm ledmon

2.Follow the instruction to create a RAID0/1/10 volume from Intel HII, referm https://goo.gl/xwqqDs

3.Make sure RAID already reassembled or not
  $cat /proc/mdstat
  $mdadm --detail-platform
  $mdadm --detail /dev/md12*
  $mdadm --detail /dev/md12*

4.Try to partition or mount /dev/md126

5.Use fio package to do performance test.

More detailed testing can be executed if the appropriate hardware is available.

[Regression Potential]
The performance issue may be met under specific hardware with VROC support; We have to make the SRU work then we can explore more things further under bionic.

Hi Mathieu,

I just follow-up the SRU procedure (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure), and please feel free to fix/cancel subscription if I'm driving the wrong way.

Sponsored the package.

Woodrow, for next SRU uploads like this (which is effectively a backport), or for other SRUs, please update the version number to be above the one already in the archive, but below the version number for the next release. For example:

in bionic right now: 0.79-2build1
the SRU: 0.90-0ubuntu1~18.04.1
in cosmic: 0.90-0ubuntu1

This way, upgrades to the next release will work and update the package (even if the update is a no-op).

I used the following command to generate the source package:
debuild -S -d -v0.79-2build1

Please check in:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/389573368/ledmon_0.90-0ubuntu1~18.04.1_source.changes
and
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/389573440/ledmon_0.79-2build1_0.90-0ubuntu1~18.04.1.diff.gz

To make sure I did not forget anything.

Thanks!

Hi Mathieu,

Thanks your sponsor, I think it's good enough for SRU now:)

Hello Woodrow, or anyone else affected,

Accepted ledmon into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ledmon/0.90-0ubuntu1~18.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.
