Bug Description

precise beta won't install, no install icon on the desktop. Using install from launcher, it flickers a bit then does nothing, returns to steady launcher display.

zsync'd as of today March 8, apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade after booting the .iso successfully (this is it running here now)

Phillinux suggested I try cli install. Here's failure message from that:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo ubiquity
Inhibit all polling failed: Failed to execute program /usr/lib/dbus-1.0/dbus-daemon-launch-helper: Success

cat /proc/version
Linux version 3.2.0-18-generic-pae (buildd@rothera) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu2) ) #28-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 2 22:11:12 UTC 2012

I tried ubuntu-bug ubiquity:

The problem cannot be reported:
This is not an official Ubuntu package. Please remove any third party package and try again.

Acer Aspire one netbook, precise pangolin running well (for an alpha updated to beta) in another partition. Runs unity-3D etc.

Running live in 1 GB memory quite well firefox et. al. except for ubiquity. I have two other test pc's precise beta installed fine.

Poked around at logs, attaching /var/log/installer/debug

Note, tried install from launcher and cli maybe sone of the debug has info from those attempts. I don't know enough to interpret the log.

Anything else of use?

Thanks, Jerry

zsync every day and try again:

no install icon on desktop

install from launcher flickers a while. A launch icon appears briefly seems to be "gksudo".

install from cli fails as above posts:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo ubiquity

Same thing either "ubiquity" or "sudo ubiquity" or "gksudo ubiquity"

Have been booting .iso from USB port. Copied today's zsync updated file to hard drive, booted the .iso, same result.

Do note using the same techniques Oneiric installs successfully. Also, precise Beta installs successfully on Compaq Presario tower and on IBM Thinkpad T40,

? Any ideas anyone?

Do note, when running "Live", runs well for a live environment and of course gets several failures "already reported" it says, does not give the title of the bugs, then continues to run.

"startup disk creator" to USB pen drive same install failures as above. All up to date as of March 9.

ubuntu-bug ubiquity fails as above. It does create a couple files, a "installer_debug+log" attached and a "bug" file I'll post next.

Anything else of use?

Found a casper-rw partition on the other hard drive. Formatted and renamed it. Some data on it must not have been initialized when the new .iso was booted.

Install went normally then.

Jerry, so have you isolated the problem? This is still happening on the dailies right?
