Bug Description

Binary package hint: lcdproc

1) $ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10

2) $ apt-cache policy lcdproc
lcdproc:
  Installiert: 0.5.2-0ubuntu2
  Kandidat: 0.5.2-0ubuntu2
  Versions-Tabelle:
 *** 0.5.2-0ubuntu2 0
        500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/universe Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) I expected that my VFD (Futaba dm-140gink) will work with lcdproc.

4) The device was not supported by this version of lcdproc package.

I found a ppa with a working package (0.5.2-0ubuntu2pavka4) here:
http://ppa.launchpad.net/pavkamlc/ubuntu

Please activate support for dm-140 in regular package.

thx

I see that lcdproc 0.5.3 is being readied for release upstream. I assume it supports this device?
It is rare that Mythbuntu (or Ubuntu in general) makes patches and releases items between the normal 9.04 and 9.10 release though, so you may just have to use a PPA or compile it yourself until then. I suppose a -backport could be requested.

This all assumes that 0.5.3 really does support this device, however.

On the homepage lcdproc isn't version 0.5.3, this is only on sourceforge, but I don't found dm140 driver in this.

Does not look like lcdproc 0.5.3 includes a driver for this.

There won't be a driver for the Futaba dm-140gink VFD since the developer of lcdproc gets one sended.

@ Pavel Mlcoch: Please contact the third-party (Henlar?!?) who delivered the package with the implemented dm140-driver and bid him to send the sourcecode of the driver to the lcdproc-developers.

After that we can look forward to let the driver to be included in the development tree, and perhaps being in the next stable release.

thx

Here is a lot of discussion regarding this driver:

The link may be helpful in getting the problem solved.

Attachment contains dm140.c and dm140.h, from Henrik Larsson's package (LCDProc 0.5.2).

Need anything else?

Howdy DustWolf: are you aware if this patch has been passed on to the lcdproc group (I believe they are at http://sourceforge.net/projects/lcdproc/support)? If not, could you please do so? It is *much* easier for Ubuntu to pick up patches directly from upstream if necessary.

Thank you for helping!

Thanx. Is there anything we can do to improve the driver to meet the conditions of lcdproc?
Or can you contact the developer to let him know that there is something to fix?
