Bug Description

I noticed the bug when i first installed lash. Seq24 would not play through the loops in the song. Then I got it to appear to play through the song when I tweaked some jack settings in it, but it wouldn't loop, and still wouldn't play sequencer events. So I uninstalled lash and seq24 started to operate normally.

the package was installed from the Ubuntu Hardy Repo - it was lashd 0.5.4-0ubuntu2 and lash-bin 0.5.4-0ubuntu2
I'm using Ubuntu Studio 8.04 Amd64

I came upon this thread from a while back - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5004450#post5004450
seems some people had the same problem.

Could you add step by step reproduction instructions so I can test this on my 32bit Ubuntu Hardy system?

Also please add (at least) this information):
- What synth(s) did you hook up to Seq24?
- Did you create jack & midi connections for Seq24 & the synth(s) and did you use an external tool to draw the connections?
- We're all apps started without any parameters?
- Was Seq24 also installed from the Hardy repository and what version was it?
- What does "not play through loops" actually mean? Does it seem to be playing (in the GUI) but no events are sent or no sound is heard from the synth(s)?

 Thank you in advance :)

All righty.
Step by step starting without LASH.
(Without Jack started)
Start up seq24-0.8.7 that was installed with distro.
Start up ZynAddSubFX (also installed with distro - dunno what version, guessing the latest)
Open song editor in seq24 and add a track.
Select ZynAddSubFX midi bus.
Press piano key (in track editor) to test sound - hear sound.
Add events to track editor and hit play, also set loop to 1 measure.
Plays events and loops just fine.

After installing lashd 0.5.4-0ubuntu2 and lash-bin 0.5.4-0ubuntu2
Start seq24
Start Zyn
open song editor in seq24 and add track
Select Zyn midi bus.
Press piano key in track editor to test sound again - hear sound.
Add events to track editor and set to loop one measure.
Errr... k plays everything fine now. But i did just set memlock and got rt to work which wasn't working when this occurred.
Gonna try to reproduce without the rt/memlock settings added.

Ok, I can't reproduce the bug anymore.

The problem you were seeing could just be a problem with ZynAddSubFX which doesn't really work that well with jack. It's jack connection pretty often get's "zombified" and it just doesn't produce any sound anymore. Of course in that case triggering notes using Zyn's own virtual keyboard also fails (no sound). Also using Zyn' with jack's "Frames/Period" setting below 1024 usually results in broken sound.

For those reasons I pretty much gave up on ZynAddSubFX myself. A nice replacement for it is WhySynth (http://www.smbolton.com/whysynth.html).

Is this reproducible with the latest release available on Maverick?
