Bug Description

Binary package hint: laptop-mode-tools

Instead of installing the /etc/power files only on the powerpc platform, /etc/default/laptop-mode gets only installed on the powerpc.

Consequently laptop-mode-tools is in many cases installed without this config file.

/etc/power/ however appears to be a configuration directory for the pbbuttonsd daemon, which is powerpc-specific (

/etc/default/laptop-mode is missing even more now since the ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE setting has been correctly removed from /etc/default/acpi-support.

Changed in laptop-mode-tools (Ubuntu):

OTOH from the l-m-t FAQs:

And what about /etc/default/laptop-mode?

That's only supported for backward compatibility with the old Ubuntu laptop-mode package. It contains a setting using which you can enable or disable laptop mode entirely.

Meaning that file can well be removed after all now, and l-m-t can stop looking for it.

Configuration is done in /etc/laptop-mode/laptop-mode.conf .

* /etc/default/laptop-mode is mostly not getting installed anyway (and probably shouldn't be installed) (this bug)

it is actually necessary for laptop-mode-tools to stop looking for ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE for those two files at all, and to only depend on its configuration in /etc/laptop-mode/laptop-mode.conf .
