by "on battery" do you propose remounting the partitions when I plug/unplug my AC adapter? That sounds like a fairly bad idea to me and a laptop will always benefit from having noatime because it probably has a fairly slow disk.

This bug is about enabling relatime for users who use laptop-mode.

IMHO it would be best to see relatime enabled for all ext3 partitions for everyone see :

I think relatime is the way to go, too. I think for mutt users and other use cases it is supperior to noatime and still enables us to keep the hard drive spinned down.
