Do you have openoffice.org-l10n-fr installed?

No, it isn't installed. Why the apt system doesn't select the french localization package in order to propose it ?

Note that the language-pack-fr package is installed:

Did you install French via System->Administration->Language Support?

It looks like you are also missing the gnome/kde support for whichever desktop you are using.

I upgraded from Xubuntu 9.04 to karmic by using the command:
-----
update-manager -d

Next, I installed the LXDE meta-package and uninstalled most of the XFCE related packages.

I'm using the LXDE desktop environment. Why the localization should be linked to a desktop environment ?

Sorry that above assumption was based on thinking you were running Gnome or KDE both of which had missing localizations files, but that is to be expected if you didn't have either of those desktops installed.

But that still doesn't answer the question of if you have the proper localizations installed for your system via System->Administration->Language Support? If that fixes your problem it is a bug with part of the installation process and not OOo itself which is why I need to know to reassign the bug to the proper area.

Ok, sorry. I didn't understand.

The "System->Administration ->Language Support" tool proposed the below packages:
wfrench
openoffice.org-hyphenation
language-support-writing-fr
openoffice.org-l10n-common
openoffice.org-l10n-en-gb
openoffice.org-help-en-gb
openoffice.org-help-en-us
openoffice.org-l10n-fr
openoffice.org-help-fr
openoffice.org-l10n-en-za

I installed all those packages.

My problem is now fixed.

Thanks.

Not sure what was the cause of his language support not being properly installed so reassigning to language-support-fr, someone with more idea about where this should go please reassign.

same problem here, not just after upgrading to 9.10 but after an update.
Tried to clean by uninstalling all "en" locales and re-install "fr" locales
=> Nada
A full uninstall + reinstall of OOo still the same, despite gnome *is* localized "French"

Solved by manually add install "openoffice.org-l10n-fr"

All manipulation here made from Synaptic.

My 2 cts.
