Bug Description

Binary package hint: language-selector

I was using Ubuntu 10.04. Now I`ve upgraded up to 10.10, though attached technical information could differ. I was solving some problems with OpenOffice (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/language-selector/+question/128056), when I saw, that all system menus are in English (my system language was Russian). OpenOffice, Firefox and all non-GNOME applications remained in Russian. I`ve opened Language support, and the utility warned me, that "language-support-input-ru" is missing. I agreed to install, but have no success, because this package is not present in Ubuntu 10.04.

I created a question about this problem, though you can see, how the problem evaluated, here https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/language-selector/+question/128056 (the problem had by far continuation)

Leaving the warning about "language-support-input-ru" aside, I suspect that the problem with non-GNOME apps displaying the wrong language will be solved through a patch I'm working with:
https://code.launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/language-selector/fix-553162/+merge/39791

It would be great if you could test the patch
https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/locale-test
and let us know about your observations.

Ok, but, for the first, when I worked on this problem, I tried different things, I removed all Russian support and reinstalled it, and such a phenomenon as you work on shortly disappeared.

The second is, that now language started to work, though, please tell me, if I really need this patch, though if this merge is useful, or I should wait until the patch appeared among normal updates?

Anyway I am ready to help)

Andrey,
Well, any help with evaluating the patch would be helpful.

OTOH, considering that your problem seems to have been more complex, I cannot guarantee that installing the patch wouldn't mess up things for you again. I fully understand if you choose to wait until the patch is released officially.

The language-support-input-ru package was considered obsolete and intentionally deleted before the Lucid release. Hence it seems to me that there is no remaining issue in this bug report that is left to be fixed, so I assigned it the status "Invalid". If you think I'm wrong, please change the status again and try to clarify the problem.

@Andrei Emeltchenko
I asked for a clarification in connection with a possible status change, and "the same bug" is not clear enough. ;-) Please clarify the nature of the problem you experience.
